Coffee filters! Who’da thunk it. I have seen them on a wreath (very cute), but not on a lamp. So, I thought I’d go for it and share the inspiration.
These photos really don’t do it justice. It has a beautiful warm glow and adds so much personality to the room. It looks like thousands of tissues were cut and twisted, but it’s just filters. The lamp stand was an antique I found at an estate sale. It was gold and green. I painted it with a whitewash technique.
Fold over a single filter or pile a couple on top of each other and then fold (for a fuller looking flower).
Keep making tons of these “flowers” with bent tips and just keep applying until the entire shade is covered. (Or, until your entire hand is burnt from hot glue.)
My 4 year old son had a different method of decorating with them. Oh well. I can’t discourage his creativity. 🙂

I did not grow up planning to be a great grandma. I figured it would just happen, and it did! I grew up knowing I really, really wanted babies! Lucky for me I found a man who thought that was a great idea! We were married for 36 years and 5 children were born.
During those years there were times when it seemed life was tailor made for me, but then disaster struck! It took the form of a stroke, which damaged the right half of my brain. Consequently, the left half of my body stopped working; my left arm and leg turned into 2 x 4s. This put me into rehabilitation therapy. It took time and a lot of work, but we eventually regained my balance and leg movement.
I found there are benefits to life in an assisted living facility: A lifelong dream of meeting people from other cultures and getting to understand them is realized; segments of free time for naps and creative activities are available; opportunities for personal growth life lessons not learned when young are presented at age 89.
I am becoming the person I always wanted to be. I am excited to have my 90th birthday next year, and to see what the world brings during the following 30 years! I plan to live to 120!
I am certain that there will be some very nice surprises waiting for me.

Very creative! I loved the wreath idea using the coffee filters. I used to make wreaths all the time with little bunches of dried hydrangeas. I remember the hot glue gun burns. I’m sure I still have the scars to prove it. But that lampshade is yummy enough to eat!!

This is gorgeous! I have been planning on doing something with coffee filters in my new nursery but hadn’t thought of trying a lampshade ! Now you are making me want to try that! Hey Sarah! I use Photoshop CS5. I am completely an amateur but love taking pictures for our shop and thanks to Photoshop can give a big boost to my so-so photos! Haha! I use a lot of actions as well. Free ones from Pioneer Woman and The Coffee Shop and I have also splurged on some from Florabella that are amazing!

I just finished up a wreath it took forever but turned out super cool I will be posting about it on my blog soon.

Hi Kayla. Yes, do it! You will love it!!! You can pass it down to your child someday too as family artwork. Send me a photo if you make it. A red light bulb in it may make the lamp glow a pinkish color. How fun would that be?! xox Sarah

HOLY COW!! This is beautiful! I bought a lamp recently that I want to redo…had planned on possibly doing tule on the shade, but this may change my mind 🙂 I love this! I love tall lamps….and if I knew you personally, you would probably find it missing from your home!! Very nice.

Great tutorial! I have seen so many for the wreath (which I made an put in this mantle:http://twentysomethingtransue.blogspot.com/2010/12/mantlescape-1.html . ) but NEVER have I seen or even thought of a lampshade! It looks SO PERFECT!

I love this idea! Just bought a french press so I have about half a package of costco filters wasting away in my cupboard. 🙂 My daughter would absolutely love this lamp in her room. I wonder what it would look like if I dyed the filters with that food coloring “science experiment” activity first…
These are gorgeous! However, how the heck do you keep them clean? My house is a dust magnet, I don’t think they would stay white for very long. 😉

awesome idea! i made a heart for valentine’s day with this method, but i may need to pull out the coffee filters once again! i have been thinking of doing the “burplap ruffle” thing to my bedside lamp shade…now i have to pick between this and the burlap!

Thank you so much for this idea! I made two for my nightstands (currently redoing my Master) and they look GORGEOUS! Can’t even tell they are coffee filters. I also made 7 coffee filter flowers and turned them into a wreath to hang on my mirror above my head… just love the look.

I love this! I also made a wreath a few months back, but didn’t like the white in my living room (my walls are white). So I used black tea bags and let them soak for a couple days, and I LOVE the antique brown color it gave it. I love coffee filters.. this idea is awesome! I need to find a lamp that I can recover.
